Energy Healing- What is it? How Does It Work? So it seems energy healing is a hot topic right now… since I use this on my family and friends and sometimes even strangers I thought I would write an article describing my thoughts on what it is and my beliefs on how this amazing tool works. First thing to know is everyone has this innate ability… just like psychic senses. Anyone can learn how to use energy in a healing fashion. There is a short exercise within this article that will give you an idea of how to being to feel energy flowing… from there the sky is the limit. I have read quite a bit on the topic, and there are multiple techniques… Rieki, Healing Touch, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Kahuna healing, Native American techniques, SHEN, even acupuncture could be considered a type of energy healing as it deals with the energy meridians in the body. With each technique there is usually some sort of philosophy- some of which are spiritually based. The wonderful thing about energy healing is you do not have to be a spiritual person to use energy… just like you can access psychic senses without being particularly religious. I was first intrigued by the idea of being able to heal with touch by a book that I read as a teenager. It was a fantasy novel but I felt drawn to the main character and the way she was able to perform amazing healings with just her touch and intent. I wanted to be this woman… I wanted to be a healer. Is it possible to emulate what she did? I didn’t know but I was a teen and a dreamer and I was willing to believe it could be done. In energy healing the practitioner learns to focus and amplify life-force energy ("Chi"- "Prana"- it goes by many names) by breath and intent (and some times a specific technique depending on the type of healing). The philosophy I choose to believe is this… everything vibrates. When two things vibrate at different frequencies, there is a tendency for the vibrations to come together. Most often, the slower vibration will rise to match the faster frequency. There are many examples of this: strike a tuning fork and bring another close and it will begin to vibrate (just from proximity), over time, similarly tuned electric oscillators will match frequencies; disembodied animal hearts when placed near each other and kept alive in a lab will all beat in unison; and when women share close quarters, over time they will often start menstruating at similar times (I know I know TMI lol). The type of healing I perform uses resonance to facilitate healing. I raise my vibration (using breathing and concentration) and create a raised level of energy. When you practice a bit you can being to feel the energy in your hands. My hands tingle, similar to the sensation you get when your hand has fallen asleep but not quite as strong usually. When that energy field is placed around an area of pain, stress, inflammation, or disease, that part of the body will strive to match to the higher frequency and allow one’s own “biological intelligence” to do whatever healing necessary. It is a very simple and effective process- of course I don’t not recommend this to replace your normal doctor visits etc- but in conjunction with typical medical care this can be a great tool and a way to help speed up the healing process. It is also a wonderful method of helping in instances where traditional medicine can no longer help or is at a loss. In reality the practitioner does not heal the client- the clients body does the healing work on its own. Raising the vibration and feeding it into the problem area gives the body a boost to speed up its own recovery efforts. Sometimes your body has difficulty healing itself- there may be other areas that vie for attention and energy- more important areas need taking care of- that is why donor energy can be so helpful. It can replenish your energy stores and give your body the extra it needs to heal itself. Sessions can last from 15 minutes to an hour, some healings only take one session- some take multiple. This all depends on how new the injury is, how chronic and how much your everyday life depletes your natural energy stores. Where does a practitioner get the energy and how do they know that the energy is actually flowing to the client? Well this is where a little practice comes in. I can increase my own energy field by breathing and move the created energy with my intent. Breathing charges your body’s energy field- for example when you exercise you breath heavier because your body needs more energy/fuel/air to work the muscles harder. When you relax the body and mind and increase you awareness toward your breath you can pump your body full of energy and then direct that outward- you can charge objects, liquids and also share this with other people. You know the energy is moving because you can feel it physically. If you are interested in attempting a quick exercise you can feel your energy as well. This will probably only take 5 minutes to try: 1. Sit comfortably and relax. 2. Rest you hand on your lap and extend your pointer finger. 3. Start concentrating on your breath; breathe in for a count of 4 then out for a count of 4 4. Once you feel you have the breathing down look at your finger and imagine, as you are breathing, energy is flowing to your outstretched finger. It is great to use your imagination here- I see energy as a blue glowy current. It is also useful to visualize as that helps show your brain your intent for the energy. Imagine as you breath in that the energy grows (fueled by the air) in your heart area and as you breath out the energy is flowing out to your finger. 5. Within a few minutes of continued visualization most people will begin to feel sensation in their finger… ever so slightly it is gaining a vibration and you will feel it- sometimes its warmth- I feel it as a tingle. That sensation shows you the energy flowed to your finger with just your concentration and intent to move it there. Some people may have some trouble visualizing for a few minutes- that’s where practice comes in. Even people who have the hardest time concentrating can do the above 5 minute exercise and within a few tries, start getting results. Your body and mind will learn and adapt quickly. In the beginning I could only do 15 minute sessions. I just couldn’t hold my breathing and concentration for longer than that- I had to “work out” for 15 minute intervals until I could start longer sessions. Now I offer up to an hour- but I find 30 minutes the most comfortable and it is long enough to do the trick in most cases. Meditation is a great help for this type of work as meditation trains your mind to be quiet. That is the first step and with a quiet mind visualization becomes easier- and moving the energy is more efficient. Energy healing can be used for any physical issue (pain, healing form surgery, arthritis, migraines, etc)- I have never heard or read about a case where an energy healing did harm. If your body has enough energy (or something just doesn’t jive)- the transfer simply doesn’t happen. Most of the time as a practitioner you know when this happens because the energy sensation will stop in your hands. My hands will go from super tingly to just warm and I know that the session is done. Of course you want to go to a reputable healer- ask for references, a good healer should have no problem giving you a few. This type of healing can also help those with mental health issues- not by healing the dysfunction but by helping (for example) a manic person calm down and helping those with depression have more energy. Indirectly this may help them to deal with internal issues. Healing can also be done at a distance. Amazing as this may sound I have done several distance healing sessions for various conditions all with fairly good results. I like distance work because I know it helps ease a person into something new and different. It can be uncomfortable going to a healer for the first time. There is fear we will ask you to strip down or touch in places that are uncomfortable etc and so it is intimidating to go in to try it out. The environment should never be uncomfortable- it is not conducive to healing work. The other reason distance work is necessary is many times there is no one in your area that performs energy healing. Distance work takes considerable more concentration and one would probably want to become proficient at hands on healing before attempting distance sessions. There is really no limit to energy healing and its uses. I know there are many more than the few I have listed. My hubby asks me to run energy into his back all the time- as it gets fairly sore from his job. My five year old son, when hurt or sick, will ask me for energy to help. Parents pass energy to their children all the time- hugs are a great way to share. Once while I was suffering from a head ache my son offered to give me some energy to help- then he put his hands on my temples and counted to 20- “There Mama- now your head is all better!” he proclaimed triumphantly. It was such a sweet sentiment, showing he cared about my pain and wanted to help. I was a very proud mom with a slightly less painful headache : ). If you would like a step by step way to learn energy healing I recommend the book: Quantum Touch (http://www.quantumtouch.com) it goes more in depth on resonance and energy healing theories and step by step directions so anyone can learn to use healing energy. |
